Use of serology in canine and feline dermatology. In: Veterinary Focus 18(1); 2008

چکیده
Serology is based on the use of antibodies to detect circulating antibodies (immunoglobulin) or antigens. Largely used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, it is now often replaced by DNA or RNA detection of infectious agents by molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR, rt-PCR). However, antibody detection can have some advantages on PCR techniques and numerous diagnostic evaluations use serological techniques especially for the diagnosis of immune-mediated diseases. Principle of serological techniques Numerous techniques are used (Table 1, Figure 1). The main home tests are based on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunochromatography (IC) (Figure 2) and laboratory techniques on indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA), ELISA and agglutination (latex or RBC) (Figure 3).

متن کاملFeline herpesvirus 1 infections in a domestic cat population in Ahvaz, Iran
Feline herpesvirus 1 (FeHV-1) and feline calicivirus (FCV), associated with upper respiratory tract disease, are highly prevalent in cats worldwide. With the aim of investigating the importance of FeHV-1 in a population of cats, samples were taken in a hospital in Ahvaz, south-west Iran, between June 2007 and June 2008. Oropharyngeal, nasal and ocular swabs were collected from 65 domestic cats,...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical analysis of cyclin A, cyclin D1 and P53 in mammary tumors, squamous cell carcinomas and basal cell tumors of dogs and cats.
The involvement of cyclin A, cyclin D1 and p53 proteins in canine and feline tumorigenesis was analyzed immunohistochemically. In the present study, a total of 176 cases were examined, among which there were 108 canine cases (75 mammary lesions, 16 squamous cell carcinomas and 17 basal cell tumors) and 68 feline cases (43 mammary lesions, 20 squamous cell carcinomas and 5 basal cell tumors). Sp...

This study determined the distribution and zoonotic potential of Giardia duodenalis assemblage types among canine and feline fecal samples from Ontario. The effectiveness of Giardia assemblage typing methods by sequencing the genes of small subunit ribosomal RNA (ssu-rRNA), β-giardin (bg), glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh), and triose phosphate isomerase (tpi) was evaluated simultaneously. From 200...

Autoimmune dermatologic diseases represent some of the most interesting and challenging problems seen in veterinary dermatology. Current advances in this area have primarily focused on the documentation of a few “newer” diseases, the delineation of the pathomechanism of various diseases (usually compared and contrasted with the disease in man), and the exploration of glucocorticoid alternatives...
